Day 5 - Sydney

Image
CHRISTY: Today we just were typical tourists.  Scott had the whole day planned for Valentines Day.  It was pretty sweet of him to think of Valentines Day with everything else he had already planned.  We got up and had our buffet breakfast and then we were off to a tour of the opera house.  There was so much I learned about this architectural wonder.  I won't tell you all the details but I will tell you there there are 6 different theaters in there and they are all used for different things.  The events range from concerts, dance parties, private events, symphonies, opera, plays and just about any event you could imagine.  There is this one room that has a pipe organ with over 10,244 pipes!  It's only used like 6 times a year because it takes a specialized organist to play such a complicated instrument.                                         ...

Day 4 - Sydney

CHRISTY: Today was pretty much a travel day.  We got up early and had our last amazing buffet breakfast and then took a taxi to the airport to fly to Sydney.  The flight was short only about 90 minutes.  This was the first time we have ever flown Virgin and I won't be anxious to do it again anytime soon.  The only drinks they offered for free was a cup of water, tea or coffee, everything else cost money.   When we landed in Sydney we took a short taxi ride to our hotel, The Sydney Harbor Marriott .  It isa nice hotel with an old vibe to it, kind of retro.  Scott surprised me and upgraded the room to a suite with a view of the Opera House.  It is so cool to see it from the room!  We got situated in the room and went down to get some dinner.  The dinner was a small buffet with many bite sized foods.  It was so delicious!   After dinner we walked around the area to check out what was around.  We found an area near t...

Day 3 - Brisbane and the Australia Zoo

CHRISTY-   If you know me, today was an epic day.  One I will cherish forever.  When I was in my early twenties (you know, a few years ago) I watched Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter.  I am sure I watched every episode, probably more than once.  I always thought this man was an incredible person.  His love for animals, no matter how dangerous or hated by many, was something to admire.  He showed me the beauty in all animals and he is the reason I rehabilitated animals for 7 years.  The fact that he was such an advocate for the lives of crocodile was admirable.  His passion was something I will never forget.   Today was a dream come true.  I honestly thought I would never be able to make the long trip to the Australia zoo but Scott though...

Day 2 - Brisbane

Image
CHRISTY:  Today I got up at 6:00 a.m. and actually felt pretty rested.  Scott got up shortly after and we decided to head down to the breakfast buffet.  They had so many good things to choose from that I really wanted a platter instead of a small plate.  One thing I never had before was Ricotta pancakes.  They were delicious!  You could put Mascarpone, chocolate, or honey.  I of course put on all three!  Everything they put out is so fresh and delicious.   After breakfast we decided to go for a walk and explore some more.  We ended up at a beautiful botanical garden.  They had this huge pond with a fountain where you could see large iguanas crawling around the outside.  All the flowers, trees and the grounds were so beautifully kept up.   We kept walking until we reached the river walk.  There were so many trees along the path that were submerged in water.  As we took a look closer we began to se...

Day 1 in Brisbane

Image
CHRISTY:   We flew to LAX on Friday the 7th and stayed the night close to the airport so we could just get up and head out to our flight to Brisbane.  We were lucky enough to spend time with two of our kids, our daughter and our son and his girlfriend.  Our flight left at 8:20 p.m. and I'm not sure what exactly happened but I believe we somehow time traveled into the future because we arrived Monday at 5:00 a.m.  The flight wasn't too bad we actually got lucky because the seat next to me was empty.  We had 3 meals and snacks throughout the flight. The meals were okay, nothing too special.  The most entertaining thing was the wooden silverware.  I don't know if many of you know but Scott absolutely hates the feel of wood in his mouth.  It literally makes him so uncomfortable even to talk about it.  To watch him try and eat his food was almost too much to bear because I could not stop laughing.  After our meal we decided to try and sleep....

Our Next Adventure

Hello everyone! Tomorrow Christy and I leave for Los Angeles to start our 3-week adventure to Australia and New Zealand! Keep checking here for updates, I PROMISE to be more diligent on updates than on our Egypt trip!

Our Egyptian Adventure - Day 1

Image
Day One of the Journey! Christy : We decided to go a day early to Egypt since it was such a long flight (16 hours) and I'm so glad we did.  But first, the journey started in Los Angeles.  We stayed overnight in LA so that if by some weird off chance our flight was delayed we would have plenty of time to get to Egypt.  We called a cab to come pick us up and take us to the airport.  The airport was only maybe 15 minutes away from the hotel so it wasn't a far cab ride.  Well unfortunately is was a long 15 minutes!  I feel like our cab driver had only just learned how to drive.  It was the worst cab ride I have ever taken in my life.  I couldn't tell if the transmission was bad or he had it in the wrong gear.  After it was over I had whiplash and motion sickness from all the jerking back and forth and abrupt breaking!  It was awful.   Anywho, the plane ride wasn't too bad although I didn't get much sleep because the seats were hard...
