Day 4 - Sydney

CHRISTY:

Today was pretty much a travel day.  We got up early and had our last amazing buffet breakfast and then took a taxi to the airport to fly to Sydney.  The flight was short only about 90 minutes.  This was the first time we have ever flown Virgin and I won't be anxious to do it again anytime soon.  The only drinks they offered for free was a cup of water, tea or coffee, everything else cost money.

When we landed in Sydney we took a short taxi ride to our hotel, The Sydney Harbor Marriott .  It isa nice hotel with an old vibe to it, kind of retro.  Scott surprised me and upgraded the room to a suite with a view of the Opera House.  It is so cool to see it from the room!  We got situated in the room and went down to get some dinner.  The dinner was a small buffet with many bite sized foods.  It was so delicious!

After dinner we walked around the area to check out what was around.  We found an area near the Sydney harbor that had a ton of shops, restaurants, bars, desserts, coffee and just about anything you needed.  After a couple hours of checking the harbor out and where we needed to go to board our cruise on Saturday we decided to head back to the hotel and relax.

SCOTT:

hotel is situated very cool, within walking distance to the harbor (and to our cruise Saturday).  It DOES seem to be a refurbished old building, but it's pretty cool.  the view of the harbor and the opera house doesn't hurt either.

I DID notice everything is expensive here, although only about 2/3 in US Dollars.  I looked up what the Australian national minimum wage is--$24 an hour!  with a minimum of $915 a week for a 38-hour workweek.  That means a minimum wage worker will earn over $47,000/year!  no wonder everything is costly for the locals.  All in all though, not a really expensive place for the US dollar.  A nice dinner will cost you 20-25 USD per person, which is pretty good.  Tomorrow, we're going to find out how much ice cream is!
