Day 3 - Brisbane and the Australia Zoo

CHRISTY-

If you know me, today was an epic day.  One I will cherish forever.  When I was in my early twenties (you know, a few years ago) I watched Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter.  I am sure I watched every episode, probably more than once.  I always thought this man was an incredible person.  His love for animals, no matter how dangerous or hated by many, was something to admire.  He showed me the beauty in all animals and he is the reason I rehabilitated animals for 7 years.  The fact that he was such an advocate for the lives of crocodile was admirable.  His passion was something I will never forget.

Today was a dream come true.  I honestly thought I would never be able to make the long trip to the Australia zoo but Scott thought if we booked a trip here we would have to go to the zoo so he surprised me for Christmas with this trip.  He is definitely a keeper.

The zoo was incredible, more than I could have imagined. There were parts that were like a typical zoo but then there were parts where you were on a walking safari and you could interact with the animals.  We were able to pet and feed kangaroos, pet a koala and walk around with lemurs.  The zoo is a beautiful exhibit of animals in enclosures that are spacious, lush and huge.  If you are ever in Australia, this is definitely a must see.

SCOTT-

A quick walk to our pickup point this morning and we were off for the 1 1/2 hour drive up the sunshine coast to the zoo.  It was cool to just look at the sites.  I really underestimated Brisbane as a city.  Not only is it huge with NUMEROUS 30+ story skyscrapers, but there is new construction going on EVERYWHERE.  A cool, truly metropolitan city.  But enough about that.  The zoo was really cool, EVEN if you take the crocodile hunter factor out of it.  It was lush landscaping, large pens, and everything was about conservation. The old original--the feeding the crocodile show--was a cool throwback to watch.  Walked over five miles today, then came back and plunged in the pool for a while.... a great day.

Tomorrow, off to Sydney.
