Days 6-11 (I think!)
CHRISTY:
Internet has been spotty on the ship so we haven't been able to update the blog. Our first stop was Melbourne. We didn't do any of the excursions because nothing sounded good. So we just walked around the town and checked out the area. We went walked around and found a downtown area with a bunch of shops along the road so we went shopping for some souvenirs and checked out a few thrift stores. We only spent a couple hours out and then we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. The after dinner show didn't sound that good so we just headed back to the room to watch tv. Our dinner is the late seating so there's not too much to do after that unless we want to party with the young crowd.
The next day was at sea, and the day after our stop was Hobart, Tasmania. Unfortunately this day Scott was starting to feel a cold coming on. There wasn't much to do on this stop so we just decided to walk around the area and check it out. We actually found a Target! It was pretty small for a Target but it had all the same stuff as back home. We walked around for a couple hours and checked out a bunch of cute little shops and then we found a pharmacy. Scott decided to get cold medicine in case his condition worsened. After a few hours we headed back to the ship. Unfortunately, Scotts cold did get worse and we hit some rough seas so I wasn't feeling very well. We ended up missing our dinner and we both went to sleep by 7 and didn't wake up until the next morning around 8 a.m. I took some sea sick medicine and it knocked me out.
Scott has been sick the last couple of days so I've been on my own. I went to the gym, started a book and just relaxed around the ship. We have been out to sea for two days now and it's been kind of rough until today. I am hoping it stays this way because I had my sea sick pills on my night stand and the housekeeper actually threw them away by accident. Tomorrow we do "scenic cruising"? I have never heard such a thing but basically we stay on the boat and look out to see the Fiordand National Park. This seems weird. How can we get close enough in this giant ship to actually see anything interesting? Well hopefully tomorrow I'll have lots to blog about!
SCOTT:
Well, to say I have a cold is to say that world war II was just a skirmish. I believe I died for two days. Fever, chills, congestion, etc. Day one I went to sleep at 1 in the afternoon, slept till 10, was up for an hour and went back to sleep until 9 am. for two days I've only had small pieces of cantaloupe and honeydew in the morning and nothing else all day. last night I had some rice. But like all great men throughout history, I rose on the third day (today) and actually had some scrambled eggs!
Other than that, Melbourne was pretty cool. It was just basically a large city; I'm not sure what I was expecting, but so far every city we've seen in Australia (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne) are just large cities, MUCH larger than Sacramento. It was cool to see tropical birds in their natural habitat though.
Hobart, Tasmania (an island state of Australia) was a little more undeveloped. Still a large city, but most of the island is a national park so largely untouched. I was trying to find the women's prison--no, not to meet my long-time penpal--it's historic. But alas, the cop we stopped and asked let us know our tourist map was wrong so we didn't get to see it. Thank GOD I bought cold/flu medicine and some more Advil while we were there.
Not sure we talked about the room yet. I upgraded our room to a junior balcony suite. it's larger and has a separate sitting area, two TV's and an actual bathtub (and large shower)! it's pretty cool. Other than that, we spend a little time in the casino and have played bingo a couple of times. It's Australian Bingo, which does not look like traditional bingo. However, our perfect record of never winning a single bingo game on any cruise remains intact! Maybe today.
